“…a musician of imagination, technique, confidence and the odd flash of, well, flash.
-Mark Miller (Author of A Jazzist’s Life - Bio of Herbie Nichols)
Lucas recently released his first recording, "Ugly Beauty", music of Thelonious Monk, with Finnish singer Kadi Vija. The recording, made in Amsterdam and released in March of 2017 in Helsinki at the G18 Ballroom, was met with considerable acclaim by reviewers on several continents.
“…from the very first bars it becomes clear that something astonishingly brilliant is happening here.”
-Raul da Gama, WHOLENOTE Magazine
The recording has been followed by tours of Finland, Estonia and Japan, the latter tour resulting in a re-invitation for a more extensive series of performances. As a sideman, Lucas has been touring and recording in Germany with the Lennart Allkemper Quartet featuring Toon Verheyen, Hendrick Smock and Martin Gjakonovski; and the Moritz Götzen trio featuring Moritz Götzen and Karl F. Degenhardt. Upcoming concerts include a tour in the Netherlands with the Lucas Dann trio (feat. Tijs Klaassen and Wouter Kühne); a duo tour with Lennart Allkemper, and a duo tour of Ireland with Diarmuid Lally.
